I founded RMF Communications in 1998 to offer affordable web and print communications to small businesses, nonprofits, and individuals. I don’t believe you should have to break the bank to create an online presence or communicate with your audience. My goal is to help my clients become fearless users of the Web and all that it offers. With that in mind, I take my philosophy from an ancient Chinese proverb:
“Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime.”
I don’t know if you remember what websites were like back in 1998, but they featured a lot of animated gifs, repeating background images, and much too much BOLD and ITALIC type.
“I can do better than that,” I told myself and set out to learn how to do it. I created my first site for a local nonprofit organization (it didn’t feature a single animated gif) and was hooked.
I’ve learned a lot since then. I’ve studied web design, graphic design, HTML, and CSS. I’ve read many books and analyzed many websites to learn how to improve my skills. Along the way, I’ve created websites for small businesses, individuals, and nonprofit organizations. I’ve learned how to set-up eCommerce sites, blogs, and Facebook pages and have fallen in love with WordPress (that is, if you can fall in love with software). I’ve created posters and brochures and written articles, web copy, and marketing letters.
What I love about my work is that there is always something new to learn. The technologies I use are constantly evolving, and it’s an exciting, sometimes frustrating, but always worthwhile challenge to keep up with it all.
If you want me to create a website for you — or a blog or an email newsletter — and you want to be “hands off,” I can do that, and you can focus your energies on what you want to do. But if what you want is to become a “do-it-yourselfer,” if you want to learn how to maintain a WordPress site or create an email marketing campaign, I can help you with that.
I’ll be happy to give you that fish dinner, but I’m just as happy to teach you how to catch that fish yourself.
